“Applied For” Sign Districts Subject to Grandfathering Under New Citywide Sign Ordinance

The sign districts below were applied for prior to the PLUM committee meeting on Aug. 9, 2011, but none have reached the hearing stage before the City Planning Commission.   Digital billboards and other sign types prohibited citywide would be allowed in these sign districts, although the proposed “grandfathering” doesn’t automatically approve the districts, but allows them to proceed through planning department processing and public hearings under the current city sign ordinance.  That means that no existing billboards in the surrounding communities would have to be taken down, and that scenic areas and residential areas would lack significant protections from light pollution and other visual blight associated with outdoor advertising signs.  Click on names to see maps with district boundaries and signage details, if available.
